Hio everybody.
Sorry about the drastic lack of blog posts in the past month. I've been pretty busy with school and stuff.
What's happened that I can talk about...
Well, one of the biggest assignments was a massive research paper about global warming. That was fun. about 9 pages long, including my sources. And what did I ultimately conclude? That I don't know ANYTHING about global warming, and that it could be being caused by about twelve different things. Whoop de doo.
I also chaperoned a 6th grade camping trip. THAT was fun. They go to this place called Camp Wolverine (up in Wolverine, Michigan) for a week, and do all sorts of fun stuff. At the end there's this activity called Slime-A-Dier, which is sort of a big scavenger hunt... but so much more than that... and they divide up into groups to carry it out. Somebody dresses up as the "TWM" (toxic waste monster) and tries to "slime" them with this sock-ball thing if they don't cooperate well enough, and the only way to free themselves from this slime (which stuns them into immobility) is if they can coax "Mother Nature" over to get them to free themselves.
Guess who I was?
TWM? Naw. I was Mother Nature. I wore an old dress, a mop-wig, a bonnet, and walked around with a cane and a yellow handbag (which I bludgeoned the TWM with every time I saw him). It was actually very fun. The kids loved it, at least.
I've now seen HP7.1 (Deathly Hallows) twice: once on opening day, and once with my parents. My conclusions are that the movie is a masterwork, and that Emma Watson is the most beautiful girl in the entirety of everything ever. And then there's that Horcrux scene. OH MY DEAR LORD is that... OOOooOOooOohhh...
There's a new movie out called "127 hours" about a hiker who gets stuck in a crevice (It's better than it sounds; I promise). See it. Just do it. Seriously.
Anyhow. That's about all I have to say.

I love the kids at my school
So, a couple years back, during Homeroom, I got bored and decided to put a poll up on the wall. Nothing very big: Just a corner of the whiteboard sectioned off with "Gus' Poll" written above it. At the time, I was a sophomore. I've kept it up pretty regularly since then... it's garnered a following from the middle school, who all get quite mad whenever I sleep late or am out sick, or just straight up forget to put a new one up.
As I've mentioned, I've been completely overcome by English classes lately. It only follows that some of this should bleed into my polls (partially because I keep running out of ideas). A few days ago, I decided to make the Poll an Emma reference, just for giggles - the question, "who is Handsome, Clever, and Rich?" and the three responses "Emma", "Emma", and "Gandalf". I usually check back in at the end of the day to see what's happened. When I came back in, I saw that one of the voters had made a fourth (third?) option:
"You Gus"
And it had a good deal of votes.
These kids rock.

Books, books, books
So, I've been crazy enough to take two English classes in one semester, from a teacher who gives us quite a bit of homework. You'd think that would be enough for me, but no, I'm reading Godonlyknowshowmany books on my own, too... I'll put a list up some time.
Anyway, in Literary Theory, we're reading a book called The Crying of Lot 49, by Thomas Pynchon. It's a satire - apparently - though we're only one chapter in, and I'm having trouble understanding the plot (which isn't important, it's all the religious imagery that's important... and everything else except the plot.) So far, a woman has been named executrix of an estate, we've learned that her husband quit his job as a used car salesman because he couldn't take the moral implications, and we have just followed her odd journey through a motel where she gets drunk and lets a random lawyer bone her. Then she cries.
Compare this to what we're reading in A.P. English: Jane Austen's Emma. This is one of the cheeriest novels that has ever been written. For goodness' sake, listen to the opening: "Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever, and rich..." That's just so... up-py! How could anything bad happen in that novel? We've already read it once; we're on a second reading for everything else that we missed the first time, and analysis.
Now then, for fun, I'm reading... more Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice, to be specific. I love it. Why do I love Jane Austen novels? I have NO idea. I just do. Mind you, I'm also reading a book called Night of the Living Trekkies, so I'm not all that snobby. Speaking of Night of the Living Trekkies... it combines Star Trek and Zombies into one. HOW could anything improve upon that? I don't know if it could, unless (to quote Yahtzee) "it had tits and was on fire".

I got HIT By the BURNING GOO SHIT!
Here's my dilemma: I'm a bit behind on my English homework (about 30 pages of Jane Austen behind, to be precise), but I really wanna play Left 4 Dead 2. I've READ the book (Emma) already, plus listened to it on tape; except this time, I'm reading it while taking notes. On the other hand, I really wanna play Left 4 Dead 2. I also have a Calculus test coming up that I should study for, a Physics paper that I should do some research for, a Computer Programming project to do, and two plays to read, but I really wanna play Left 4 Dead 2. Or Left 4 Dead. Or Half-Life for that matter. I think this is known as Senioritis. Shit, speaking of which, I need to finish my college applications. GAWD. You'd think I'd do a little bit less sometimes. OH GOD! I HAVE A SENIOR PROJECT TO DO TOO! Hrm. I guess I should get to work. Left 4 Dead 2 can wait for an hour or two.
